Bingo Hall Guide for Illinois

Bingo in Illinois is run by nonprofits under a license from the Department of Revenue: veterans posts, parishes, lodges and community centers. Each charity gets one session a week, so most games are a single weekly night, and a hall that opens several nights has a different charity each time. Last checked: October 2026. Each of the 19 games below is listed on the organizer’s own website, and each hall also has a current state bingo license on record. Another 17 games hold a current license but could not be confirmed with the organizer; they are in a table further down. Organizers change door times and skip holidays without any change to the license, so phone before you drive.

Illinois Bingo Rules

  • Who regulates it: the Illinois Department of Revenue, under the Bingo License and Tax Act (230 ILCS 25). Its Office of Bingo & Charitable Games in Springfield lists the phone 217 558-7425
  • Who can run it: only licensed nonprofits: religious, charitable, labor, fraternal, youth athletic, senior citizens’, educational and veterans’ groups that have existed in Illinois for five years, or two years for a local chapter of a national body
  • How often: a regular license allows one session a week, on the day and at the place printed on it, so a hall open several nights has a different charity each night
  • Prize limits: at most 25 games in a session, $2,250 in total prizes and no more than $500 for any one game
  • Metro East: in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties and the city of Red Bud the session limit is $3,250
  • Players: you must be 18 to play; a person under 18 may be in the bingo area only with a parent or guardian and still may not play, and halls may set stricter rules of their own
  • Pull tabs: licensed separately and may be sold at bingo; a ticket costs no more than $2 and a single prize is no more than $500
  • Tax: the state takes 5% of gross proceeds

The Department of Revenue sums up the limits on its bingo tax and license page. It also runs a public license lookup: choose Bingo Operator’s License, then search by city or county to see the organization, the playing address, the day, the session times and the expiry date. Senior citizens’ groups and local governments may hold small-prize bingo without a license under set conditions, so low-stakes games at senior centers and park districts are not on this page.

Illinois Bingo FAQ

Is bingo legal in Illinois?

Yes. The Illinois Department of Revenue licenses bingo run by nonprofits such as parishes, veterans posts, fraternal lodges and other charities. A regular license allows one session a week.

How old do you have to be to play bingo in Illinois?

You must be 18 to play. State law lets a person under 18 be in the bingo area only with a parent or guardian, and that person still may not play. Some halls are stricter: Park Lawn in Oak Lawn and Cantigny Post 367 in Joliet allow no one under 18 in the room, and the Lemont parish bingo is 21 and over.

How much can you win at bingo in Illinois?

A licensed session may pay no more than $2,250 in total prizes, and no single game may pay more than $500. A session is limited to 25 games. In Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties and the city of Red Bud the session limit is $3,250.

How many nights a week can a hall hold bingo in Illinois?

Each licensed organization may hold one session a week, on the day and at the place printed on its license. A hall that opens several nights has a different charity each night. Tazewell Bingo Center in Creve Coeur works this way and lists eight nonprofit sponsors.

Where can I play bingo on a Sunday in Illinois?

The Macon County Fair in Decatur plays on Sundays, with play at 1:30pm. St. Julie Billiart in Tinley Park plays on the third Sunday of the month at 1:00pm. Holy Family’s Sunday game in Granite City and the Sunday sessions at Tazewell Bingo Center do not post times, so check first.

How can I check that a bingo game in Illinois is licensed?

The Department of Revenue has a public Game License Verification lookup in MyTax Illinois. Choose Bingo Operator’s License and search by city or county. It shows the organization, the playing address, the day, the session times and the date the license expires.

Why call before I go?

A license fixes the day and the place, but it does not tell you the door time, and organizers skip holidays and pause games. Tazewell Bingo Center was shut for part of 2026 after a kitchen fire, and in Centralia the post’s website and its license name different days. A short call saves a wasted trip.
