New York Bingo Rules
- Who licenses it: the city, town or village clerk issues a one-year bingo license, and the State Gaming Commission gives each group a bingo ID number
- Where it is allowed: only in a municipality that has passed a local bingo law
- Players: 18 or older; people under 18 can enter the room but cannot play
- Prize limits: up to $5,000 for a single prize and $15,000 in total for one occasion, with some towns setting lower caps
- How often: up to 18 bingo days per calendar quarter, with up to three occasions a day
- Admission cards: no more than $5
The State Gaming Commission publishes the bingo rules and licensing process on its bingo page and its guidelines for conducting bingo. It does not publish a list of licensed games, so the municipal clerk in the area where you want to play is the best place to ask.
Local law can be stricter than the state limits. For example, the Town of Highlands caps a single bingo prize at $1,000 and a full occasion at $3,000 (Town of Highlands bingo law). Workers must be bona fide members of the sponsoring group and may not be paid or play in the games they help run.
