Bingo in Vermont is mostly charity bingo. Elks lodges, American Legion posts, parishes and other nonprofits run it under state law, and Vermont requires no license to do so. Last checked: October 2026. We confirmed only 6 games, in Burlington, Colchester and Milton in Chittenden County and in Rutland, St. Johnsbury and Bennington. Each was checked against a lodge’s own page, a 2025 or 2026 news story, or a 2026 local newspaper or radio calendar. Another 20 are older leads from directories and past listings. We could not confirm a weekly game in Barre, Montpelier, Brattleboro, Springfield, Newport or Derby. With no state license there is no public list of games, so a quick call before a long drive is the only sure way to know a night is on.

Vermont Bingo at a Glance
- Who regulates it: no state agency licenses bingo; nonprofits run it under 13 V.S.A. section 2143, and the Vermont Attorney General’s office names itself, local police, county State’s Attorneys and the Department of Taxes as the places to ask
- Minimum age: state law sets no minimum age for players, so each hall sets its own; people under the age of majority may not run the games
- Main prize limit: $400 for a single game, with one game a day allowed up to $1,000 and one game a month up to $5,000
- Games on this page: only 6 confirmed: 3 in Chittenden County (Burlington, Colchester, Milton), 1 in Rutland, 1 in St. Johnsbury and 1 in Bennington, plus 20 unconfirmed leads

- The schedule changes week to week and goes up on the hall’s Facebook page. We could not confirm a phone number. Directories give (802) 860-1510 and a different address, 275 Lakeshore Drive, Colchester. A charity used the Broadacres Drive address above for a January 2026 game, so ask which is right when you check the schedule.
- The Colchester Hockey Boosters held a New Year’s Day game here on January 1, 2026.

- A winners wall shows players who have won $1,000 or more.
- These hours come from a Milton Independent story of February 2026. The story gave no phone or age rule, so ask at the door.

Vermont Bingo Rules
- No license: Vermont does not license bingo; a qualifying nonprofit may run bingo and other games of chance under 13 V.S.A. section 2143 without a permit, though a liquor licensee that hosts games needs a permit from the state liquor department
- Who can run it: only nonprofits as defined in state law: 501(c) groups, churches, schools, fire departments, towns, fraternal organizations and fair groups that have done charitable, religious, educational or civic work in Vermont during the past year
- Prize limits: $400 for a single game; one game a day may pay up to $1,000, one game a month up to $5,000, and one game a year may award a vehicle, firearm, motorcycle or boat worth up to $50,000; on four days a year, at least 20 days apart, the limits may be exceeded if total prizes that day stay at or under $50,000
- How often: a nonprofit may hold games of chance on no more than two days a week, and a building may host them on no more than two days a week, with a few exceptions such as fairs and buildings shared by unrelated nonprofits that existed on January 1, 1994
- Age: the law sets no minimum age for players; people under the age of majority may not organize or run a game but may help at the site, for example selling food
- Electronic and remote bingo: bingo numbers may not be sent electronically or by satellite to players at another location, and gambling machines are not allowed
- Pull tabs: break-open tickets may be sold only by nonprofits, bought from distributors licensed by the Commissioner of Liquor and Lottery
- Where the money goes: after allowed costs, all proceeds must go to charitable, religious, educational or civic causes; no one may be paid more than $2,000 a year for running games, and workers may not play that group’s games the same day
These rules come from 13 V.S.A. section 2143 and the Vermont Attorney General’s gambling page. The Attorney General says there are no licensing requirements to simply operate games such as bingo. Groups that run games file financial reports with the Vermont Commissioner of Taxes. The Venue in Milton is a private business that supports charities, so ask the hall which charity a given night benefits. To compare with other states, see bingo rules by state.

We could not confirm a weekly game in Barre, Montpelier, Brattleboro, Springfield, Newport or Derby.
Is bingo legal in Vermont?
Yes. Under 13 V.S.A. section 2143, a Vermont nonprofit may run bingo and other games of chance to raise money for charitable, religious, educational or civic causes. Professional gambling is illegal in Vermont.
Do you need a license to run bingo in Vermont?
No. The Vermont Attorney General’s office says there are no licensing requirements to simply operate games of chance such as bingo. Only break-open ticket makers and distributors are licensed, by the Commissioner of Liquor and Lottery. Nonprofits that run games file financial reports with the Vermont Commissioner of Taxes.
What is the biggest bingo prize allowed in Vermont?
A single game of chance in Vermont may award up to $400. One game a day may pay up to $1,000, and one game a month up to $5,000. On four days a year a nonprofit may go over those limits, as long as total prizes that day stay at or under $50,000.
How old do you have to be to play bingo in Vermont?
Vermont’s games of chance law sets no minimum age for bingo players. It only bars people under the age of majority from organizing or running the games. Each hall sets its own rule, and none of the 6 confirmed Vermont games posts one, so ask before you bring a younger player.

A Vermont nonprofit may run games of chance on no more than two days in any calendar week. One building may host them on no more than two days a week, too.

Why call before I go?
