Tennessee has no weekly bingo halls. Bingo for money is legal here only as a once-a-year charity event, held by an approved charity or veterans group. That is why players who want a regular game drive across the state line into Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia or North Carolina. Last checked: October 2026. We checked the 14 games below against the organizer’s own page, a state bingo directory or, for one hall, a local news report. Three of them have an older or incomplete schedule, and their listings say so. Another 8 are unconfirmed leads. Every game here is an out-of-state drive, so a quick call before you leave is wise. Most halls do not post pack prices either, so ask about those too.

Is Bingo Legal in Tennessee?
Only as a once-a-year charity event. The Tennessee Secretary of State’s charitable gaming FAQ lists the games allowed at these annual events: raffles, reverse raffles, cakewalks, cake wheels and bingo. It says 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(19) organizations may apply once they have operated continuously in Tennessee for three years. Each one must then be approved by a two-thirds vote of the General Assembly. A qualified group may hold one event per event period, which runs from July 1 to June 30. So there is no hall in Tennessee where you can play every week.
The same FAQ warns that holding an unapproved game of chance may be a violation of the criminal gaming statute, and that local law enforcement can investigate. The limits go back to February 1989. That year the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled in Secretary of State v. St. Augustine Church that bingo is a lottery under the state constitution, and it struck down the charity bingo law of the time. Public Chapter 473 of 2021 added bingo to the annual event games, effective July 1, 2021. The Secretary of State speaks differently about purely recreational bingo that nobody has to pay to play. Its wording is in the rules further down.

Tennessee Bingo Rules
- Who regulates it: the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Division of Charitable Solicitations and Gaming, (615) 741-2555, under the Tennessee Nonprofit Gaming Law, and the General Assembly authorizes each year’s list of events by a two-thirds vote
- Who may hold a bingo event: a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) nonprofit that has been active and in continuous existence in Tennessee for at least three years, or meets one of the exceptions in the law
- How often: one event per organization in each July 1 to June 30 event period, with a single type of game on one event date, in a county where the group has a physical presence or a county next to it
- How bingo must be run: by the group itself, which may not pay a third party to manage or conduct the event, and Department of State rules add that bingo must be played in person, with no more than 25 games in a session and no one paid for working the event
- Prize limit: $1,000 for any single bingo game, whether in cash, goods or services, under Department of State rules
- Minimum age: 18, under the statute’s definition of the permitted games
- Not allowed: the Secretary of State lists poker, pull-tabs, punchboards, video lottery games, instant and online lottery games, keno and casino games such as slot machines and roulette wheels, and the statute also names instant bingo
- Free bingo: the Secretary of State’s FAQ says events such as bingo that are purely recreational, where participants are not required to pay to take part with the promise of a prize, do not fall into its list of gaming events that are not allowed
Most of these rules come from the Secretary of State’s FAQ, linked above. A few do not. The minimum age of 18 and the ban on instant bingo are in the Tennessee Nonprofit Gaming Law as published by Justia. The in-person rule, the 25 game limit, the ban on paid workers and the $1,000 prize cap are in the Department of State’s bingo rules. Those are published by Cornell’s Legal Information Institute. Bingo joined the annual event games on July 1, 2021 under Public Chapter 473, and the General Assembly’s bill page shows the history. Groups apply to the Secretary of State between July 1 and January 31 for an event in the following July 1 to June 30 period. The criminal code, as published by Justia, defines gambling as risking anything of value for a profit that depends to any degree on chance. What the Secretary of State says about free bingo is a general statement, not a ruling on any particular game. This section is general information, not legal advice, and a group planning a game should check with the Division first.

Tennessee Bingo FAQ
Is bingo legal in Tennessee?
Only as a once-a-year charity event. A qualified 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) nonprofit may hold bingo as its one annual gaming event in Tennessee. It must apply and be approved by a two-thirds vote of the General Assembly. There are no licensed weekly halls, and the Secretary of State says an unapproved game of chance may violate the criminal gaming statute.
Can a church or charity hold a bingo night in Tennessee?
Yes, once a year, if the group has 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) status and at least three years in Tennessee. It applies to the Secretary of State between July 1 and January 31 for one bingo event in the following July 1 to June 30 period. The group must run the event itself, players must be 18, and no single game may pay more than $1,000.
Where is the closest bingo hall to Nashville?
The nearest confirmed games to Nashville, Tennessee are in southern Kentucky. The Bingo Barn in Guthrie, about 50 miles away, plays Saturday and Sunday on a schedule last updated in 2024. American Legion Post 23 in Bowling Green, roughly 65 miles away, plays Tuesday and Thursday. Three Franklin, Kentucky halls about 45 miles north on I-65 are closer but unconfirmed, so phone before you count on them.
Where is the closest bingo hall to Memphis?
In DeSoto County, Mississippi, south of Memphis, Tennessee. Bingo Bonanza at 2888 Gwynn Road in Nesbit and Jackpot Bingo at 7268 Hwy 178 in Olive Branch are each roughly 20 miles from downtown Memphis. Bingo Bonanza plays every day but Wednesday, and players must be 18 with ID.
Where is the closest bingo hall to Chattanooga?
In north Georgia, just south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. FACES Bingo plays every Friday at American Legion Post 214, 540 Park City Road in Rossville, a few miles over the state line. American Legion Post 40 at 5956 US Hwy 41 in Ringgold plays on Thursday and Saturday.
Where is the closest bingo hall to Knoxville?
The nearest we found is in Middlesboro, Kentucky, roughly 60 miles north of Knoxville, Tennessee. Bell County Bingo at 107 West Chester Avenue says it is open four days a week with doors at 4:00, but not which days, so call (606) 248-2404 first. Tri-Cities players are much closer to the bingo in Bristol and Gate City, Virginia.
Why call before I go?
Every game near Tennessee is in another state, so a wasted trip is a long one. Several schedules here come from a state directory or an older listing that shows when doors open, not when the first game starts. Halls also close for holidays and bad weather, and age rules change at the state line, from 18 with ID at one Mississippi hall to 19 in Huntsville, Alabama.
