How we check: we compare each game with the organizer’s own page or a published listing where one exists, and we say so when we could not confirm a detail. Last checked: October 2026. Official source: Attorney General’s news release (alabamaag.gov). Seen a change? Tell us and we will fix it.
Alabama has no statewide bingo law. Bingo for money is legal only in counties that passed a local amendment to the state constitution, and only when a nonprofit runs it. So the rules change at the county line. You will find charity halls in Montgomery and Gadsden, veterans post games in Huntsville and Baldwin County and a monthly fundraiser in Birmingham.
There is also a game on Redstone Arsenal that is not open to the general public. Last checked: October 2026. Six of the games below post a current schedule on their own site or in a local paper. Three charity halls have working websites, but we could not get session times from them. Halls change nights, so a quick call before a long drive is wise.

Alabama Bingo Rules
- Where it is legal: only in a county or city covered by a local amendment to the state constitution. Jefferson, Madison, Montgomery, Mobile, Etowah, Walker, Houston and Greene counties are among those that have one
- Who can run it: nonprofit organizations
- Who regulates it: there is no state bingo commission. The county or city governing body sets the permit rules in most counties, and in Greene County the sheriff does
- Players: the Jefferson, Madison and Greene county amendments say no one under 19 may play. The Montgomery, Mobile, Etowah, Walker and Houston county amendments allow a person under 19 to play only with a parent or guardian
- Prize limits: set county by county. Madison County’s amendment caps prizes at $1,000 a session and $2,000 a week, and Greene County’s at $10,000 a session. Jefferson County’s original cap was $1,200 a session, and a later amendment lets local law set the amount
- Tribal casinos: the Wind Creek casinos operate under federal Indian gaming law, not the county amendments
The amendments are published online, for example Amendment 387 for Madison County and Amendment 413 for Montgomery County. We read the amendments, not each county’s current ordinance, so ask the hall if an age or prize rule matters to you.
Electronic bingo is a separate fight. In September 2022 the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that three casinos in Lowndes and Macon counties were illegal gambling operations and barred their electronic bingo machines (Attorney General’s news release). The Attorney General’s office closed 14 electronic bingo halls in Jefferson County in April 2023. It closed 10 more gaming businesses there in June 2025. A hall from an old list may no longer be open.

Alabama Bingo FAQ
Is bingo legal in Alabama?

The Alabama Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that electronic bingo at three casinos in Lowndes and Macon counties was illegal gambling.
