Bingo Hall Guide for Nova Scotia

Bingo in Nova Scotia is charity bingo: Legion branches, Lions clubs, fire halls, parishes and community centres run it under a provincial licence, and three large First Nation halls play in Sydney, Truro and Yarmouth. The games with posted days are in and around Halifax and Dartmouth, in Truro, Amherst and smaller northern towns, and at single halls in Sydney, Yarmouth and Windsor. Last checked: October 2026. The 16 games below were checked against the organizer’s own website or, for two Guysborough County games, a local paper’s weekly listings; 23 more are licensed halls with no posted days or older leads, and we could not confirm days for a game in Sackville, Bedford, Glace Bay, Port Hawkesbury, Bridgewater, Kentville, Digby or New Glasgow. Most small halls post changes on Facebook and nowhere else, so phone before you drive.

Bingo in Halifax and Dartmouth

We list six confirmed games in and around Halifax and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia: one in Halifax, two in Dartmouth and one each in Eastern Passage, Porters Lake and Gaetz Brook, and between them a game is listed for every day of the week; Monday rests on Farrell Hall alone, and its page carries no date, so phone first. The Halifax Forum plays six nights a week; the other five are club and community hall games once or twice a week. We could not confirm days for a game in Lower Sackville or Bedford: the province’s licence list shows seven groups licensed at 133 First Lake Drive in Sackville and the Legion on the Bedford Highway, and both are in the table further down.

More Nova Scotia Bingo Listings

These 16 halls are on the province’s list of bingo licensees, which was current as of November 18, 2025. The list gives a name and an address but no days, times or phone numbers, and a licence does not prove a game is running this month, so treat them as leads and look for the hall’s Facebook page or phone before you go.

Nova Scotia Bingo Rules

  • Who regulates it: the Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division of Service Nova Scotia licenses and inspects charitable bingo under the Gaming Control Act and the Bingo Regulations
  • Who can run bingo: charities, religious organizations and non-profit community organizations; no one may conduct, manage or advertise a bingo without a licence
  • Licence classes: a Charitable Bingo Lottery Licence comes in three forms: a series with yearly prizes over $30,000 or a single event over $2,500 ($90.45 for a 3-year series, $30.15 for a single event, plus 2.13% of prizes awarded); a series with yearly prizes under $30,000 (no cost); and a single event under $2,500 (no cost). Seniors complexes and manors use a Manor Bingo Permit for residents and their guests
  • Minimum age: none in the Bingo Regulations; the Division says it is up to each hall to post house rules and tell the public about age restrictions
  • Prize limits: $20,000 a day in total for one licensee or one premises, not counting special bingo prizes; special games such as toonie pots have a separate cap of $20,000 a day per licensee, and a carried-over pot that reaches $20,000 must be awarded within 12 weeks
  • Days and hours: no bingo on Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, Good Friday or Easter Sunday; unless the Division approves otherwise, no bingo between 5pm and 6pm or between midnight and 1pm; the Division sets how many events a week each licensee may hold
  • Admission and credit: no admission fee may be charged to enter a licensed bingo, and a hall may not lend cash or give credit to play
  • Breakopen tickets: an organization needs a separate Breakopen Ticket Licence to sell breakopen (pull-tab or Nevada) tickets

The province lists its bingo licences and forms on the Gaming Control and Registration page, and the Bingo Regulations set the $20,000 daily limit, the four closed days and a fine of up to $3000 for breaking the rules. The Division can be reached toll-free within Nova Scotia at 1-877-565-0556, at 902-424-6160 in Dartmouth or at 902-563-3495 in Sydney. The three First Nation halls, in Membertou, Millbrook and Yarmouth, are not on the provincial licence list. For how other provinces handle bingo, see our page on bingo rules by province, or the guides to Prince Edward Island bingo halls and Newfoundland and Labrador bingo halls.

Where can I play bingo in Dartmouth?

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has two confirmed games: Farrell Hall at 276 Windmill Road on Monday and Saturday, with regular games at 6:50pm (its page carries no date, so phone 902-469-5769 first), and ANAVETS Unit 349 at 137 Main Street on Wednesday, with regular games at 7:00pm. The ANAVETS club also lists a Sunday game, but phone 902 435 2933 to confirm that one. The Lions clubhouse in Eastern Passage plays on Tuesdays at 7:00pm.

Where can I play bingo in Sydney?

For Sydney, Nova Scotia, the confirmed game is the Membertou Entertainment Centre at 11 Chief Ben Christmas Awti’j in Membertou, next to the city. It plays Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm, and the bingo hotline is 902-562-3999. We could not confirm days for any other hall in the Sydney area.

How old do you have to be to play bingo in Nova Scotia?

Nova Scotia sets no minimum age for bingo. The Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division says the Bingo Regulations do not set an age limit and it is up to each hall to post its own house rule. The Halifax Forum admits players from 12, Porters Lake sells cards from 16, Legends Gaming Centre in Truro admits from 14, and Membertou’s gaming locations are for adults 19 and older.

Who regulates bingo in Nova Scotia?

The Alcohol, Gaming, Fuel and Tobacco Division of Service Nova Scotia licenses charitable bingo under the Gaming Control Act and the Bingo Regulations. Only charities, religious organizations and non-profit community organizations can hold a licence. The Division’s toll-free number within Nova Scotia is 1-877-565-0556.

What is the biggest bingo prize allowed in Nova Scotia?

Under Nova Scotia’s Bingo Regulations, the bingo prizes awarded by one licensee, or at one premises, cannot total more than $20,000 for any day, not counting special bingo prizes. Special games such as toonie pots have their own cap of $20,000 a day per licensee.

Is bingo in Nova Scotia open on holidays?

Not on four of them. Nova Scotia’s Bingo Regulations say no bingo may operate on Remembrance Day, Christmas Day, Good Friday or Easter Sunday. On other holidays it is up to the hall, so check before you go.

Is there First Nation bingo in Nova Scotia?

Yes. Three of the largest halls on this page are First Nation halls: the Membertou Entertainment Centre next to Sydney, Legends Gaming Centre at Millbrook in Truro, and the AFN Entertainment Centre in Yarmouth, run by Wasoqopa’q First Nation. Each plays four or five days a week, and none is on Nova Scotia’s list of bingo licensees.

Why call before I go?

In Nova Scotia most small halls post changes on Facebook and not on a website, and a game can stop when volunteers run short: the Bridgewater Legion suspended its weekly bingo in April 2026. Winter weather cancels nights too, which is why the Halifax Forum and Porters Lake both keep a recorded line. Prices and age rules also differ from hall to hall, so one call settles all three.
